Great day trips in the Solent

The summer is finally here (we think!) and we’re loving it. With the arrival of the sun, there is no better time to get out on your boat and enjoy it. So, I thought I would give you some ideas of fantastic day trips around the Solent.

If you no longer own your boat or haven’t got around to buying one yet but still want to get out on the water then Boat Club Trafalgar can help you with that. They have 11 top of the range boats suitable for all types of adventures that you can use for a simply monthly fee.  It couldn’t be easier.   The boat club is part of The Trafalgar Wharf Group and they are based here on site with us at Trafalgar Wharf in Portsmouth.  Give the team a call on 02392 706599 for more information, or head to their website.

Now…back to the places you can visit this weekend.

Yarmouth
Yarmouth town is located in the western Solent and has main ferry services operating from its harbour. Yarmouth is known locally as being a great spot for fishing and the harbour is always busy with ferries and small boats. During the summer Yarmouth Castle is the perfect place to visit for fantastic sea views and family picnics. It will take you approximately 2 hours to reach Yarmouth from Trafalgar Wharf at an average cruising speed.

Lymington
Lymington is a Georgian market town located on the southern edge of the New Forest. There are two large marinas giving you plenty of places to berth. Lymington has a large number of shops, boutiques, restaurants and pubs so you have a large choice of places to go for a relaxing day exploring the town. Lymington is around a 2.5 hour cruise from Trafalgar Wharf.

Hamble
Hamble River is a picturesque, quiet river at the entrance to Southampton Water with plenty of pubs and marinas dotted along its length. Hamble Point Marina at the mouth of the river has a chandlery, plenty of berths and a pub called the Ketch Rigger, a great choice for a Sunday lunch.

For an afternoon of shopping and a leisurely pub lunch, you can visit Hamble-le-Rice, a village full of cobbled streets and fine dining.
Much further along the Hamble is Swanwick Marina with plenty of pubs and restaurants in the surrounding area as well as the Boat House Café in the marina itself. The Hamble is around 1 hours cruise from Trafalgar Wharf.

Have a fantastic weekend…whatever you do 🙂
