Jump aboard with one of our highly experienced instructors to supercharge your Boat Club membership and extend your operational area into Chichester & Langstone Harbour. 

After carrying out this additional training you will be able to explore the tranquil Chichester Harbour with is stunning anchorages, marinas and beaches as well as access to Langstone’s water-ski area, sand bars and wildlife including a large colony of seals.

It opens up Chichester Marina, Sparks Marina, Northney Marina and Southsea Marina to which all have lovely eplaces to eat, explore or even to spend the night alongside.

Chichester Harbour is an AONB (an area of outstanding natural beauty) – the name says it all. You can anchor up off East Head beach, a popular summertime destination or explore the four main channels – up to Emsworth, Prinsted, Bosham and Dell Quay, via Itchenor and Birdham.

This is a free one-day training, except a fuel split between members on board. 

 

Our guided trips are a great way to get on the water with other Boat Club members whilst familiarising yourself with new boating destinations.

About Beaulieu

Beaulieu River is one of few privately owned rivers in the UK. Carefully conserved and under-developed, it’s a stunning haven to visit by boat.

It has remained unspoilt and similar to how it was hundreds of years ago, with a discreet marina and modern facilities. We will travel as far down as Bucklers Hard so that you get to see the wonderful historic village, once an 18th century center of shipbuilding where ships were built for Nelson’s Navy.

The maritime museum within Bucklers Hard is a fantastic place to discover the history of this fascinating village or explore the reconstructed cottage interiors to experience what life would have been like in the 18th century. Enjoy a cream tea at Captains Table or a pub lunch at The Master Builder, it really is a very special boat stop for the whole family.

You have the choice of attending just the morning or afternoon or can book the whole day and do both sessions.   The sessions will cover many of the skills first learned on the Powerboat Level 2 training, tailored to areas that you would like to brush up on.

We will concentrate the sessions on what you need to focus and brush up on, but here’s an idea of what could be included in each skills session;

Morning session:

• Refresher on VHF – procedures for making emergency calls, how to carry out your own radio check, calling a marina – 1 hour
  
• Navigation equipment and general navigation – how to use a chart plotter for plotting a course, how to use a chart plotter for general use depth, speed, contour depths, ‘rules of the road’ – 1.5 hours
• Passage planning – Tides – 1.5 hours

Afternoon session:

• How to moor a boat, on water skills – 3 hours

About Chichester Harbour

Chichester houses one of the last surviving pieces of natural coastline in West Sussex. East Head is an example of the nationally rare and fragile, yet dynamic, sand-dune habitat. Walk, play and sunbathe on the beach, which is considered one of the best in Sussex. Or just admire the yachts that anchor off the northern end, where you may spot the occasional seal.

Explore East Head’s distinct habitats – shingle, sandy beach and dunes that graduate into salt-marsh. Maritime plants, such as the tough-leaved sea holly and sea bindweed, grow through the sand. In summer, they’re at their vibrant, colourful best. Look too for the distinctive marram grass, which needs the cover of the shifting sands to be able to grow.

On this guided trip we will be discovering Itchenor Reach in Chichester Harbour. We will be picking up a mooring and then exploring the tranquil village of Itchenor.

Fancy a fun and informative evening talking about all things fishing? 

Join us for a relaxed and informal evening at Trafalgar Wharf with our very knowledgeable professional angling champions, Will and Darren. They’ll talk about fishing in general and be on hand to give advice to help your fishing trips be more successful. Discussions will include:

• Fishing in general in the Solent
• Best places to fish
• Practical rigging session
• Will’s fishing knowledge – equipment, tackle, bait
• Q&A – all things fishing

Will is a 2022 Sea-Angling champion and has been angling for over 30 years with the last 8 years in a professional capacity. Fishing in Europe, Africa and the UK and being the team captain for the Suzuki Pro Fishing Team means he’s the perfect expert for fishing knowledge, tips and tricks. 

We’ll take care of the food whilst you take the opportunity to increase your knowledge for your next fishing trip, whilst being in good company. 

Spaces are limited to 10 to ensure you have the best experience, so please do let us know as soon as possible if you would like to join us. This event is open to Boat Club members only. 

The event is being hosted in our warm and comfortable training suite from 6-8.30pm, so if you would like to get involved – please do pop your details in the form below and we will be in touch with all the details. 

What to expect…

You will head out with Will and his pro-angling buddy, Darren. Will is not only your skipper, but he’s also a 2022 Sea-Angling champion. Will has been angling for over 30 years with the last 8 years in a professional capacity. Fishing in Europe, Africa and the UK and being the team captain for the Suzuki Pro Fishing Team means he’s the perfect skipper for your fishing trip. He’ll be on-hand to show you the best and new ways to fish and help you make the most of your time on the water.

Fuel, bait and all the equipment needed for the day will be provided by us along with master tips and tuition from both Will and Darren. The cost for the day is £70 per person.

We plan to have a briefing outside the Café at 9.00am followed by a prompt departure at 9.30am. We’ll be bringing lines in at 3pm so would expect to be back at Trafalgar Wharf no later than 5pm. We will be out on the water for the whole day so be sure to bring a packed lunch, plenty of water and some warm clothing. Due to limited numbers, this fishing trip is for Boat Club members only.

About Port Hamble

Situated near the entrance of Southampton Water, the Hamble is home to thousands of boats. The beautiful Hamble village has a heritage of boat building and restoration and has been home to many of the UK’s top sailors. From here you can even take the bright pink Hamble Ferry across the River to visit Warsash and the Rising Sun pub.

Packed with an excellent choice of pubs and waterside restaurants there are plenty of places to berth on the Hamble too. Starting with Hamble Point Marina near the entrance, Port Hamble, Mercury Marina, and leading to Universal and Swanwick Marinas as you explore further upstream.

We will be visiting Port Hamble Marina which is based right in the heart of Hamble Village.

It opens up Chichester Marina, Sparks Marina, Northney Marina and Southsea Marina to which all have lovely eplaces to eat, explore or even to spend the night alongside.

Chichester Harbour is an AONB (an area of outstanding natural beauty) – the name says it all. You can anchor up off East Head beach, a popular summertime destination or explore the four main channels – up to Emsworth, Prinsted, Bosham and Dell Quay, via Itchenor and Birdham.

This is a free one-day training, except a fuel split between members on board.

About Lymington

Set on the edge of the New Forest, Lymington is a beautiful harbour to discover. It’s a little further up the Solent than you may have previously ventured making this guided trip the ideal opportunity to brush up on your navigation. 

The picturesque river estuary is packed with sailboats, moorings, marinas and private berths, a major south coast centre of boating. The harbour is easily accessible, with deep water access at all states of tide. Exploring up the River you pas will pass the famous Lymington Salt Water swimming baths, the Royal and Town Yacht Clubs, and the iconic Berthons Boat Yard before reaching the refurbished and extended Town Quay. There’ll be time to explore ashore and have a bite to eat.

About Southsea

It’s more than your typical seaside resort with hotels and beaches; it’s a thriving, cultural force that feels as real and tangible to those who live there as the pebbles on Southsea Beach. Whilst Gunwharf Quays may have the recognisable bars, restaurants and shopping outlets, Southsea is decidedly more independent. There may be a few big names along Palmerston Road, but most other streets are bursting with independent pubs, cafes, restaurants, shops and more. It’s also a place to get away from the copy-and-paste British High Street, to see something you don’t every day. One main benefit is that, being less than two miles wide and 1.5 miles long, the entire Southsea area is walkable for most. It’s also incredibly flat, meaning those walks feel like a breeze. Not that you’re likely to do it all in one go, of course, as there will be plenty of attractions along the way to pique your interest.

About Yarmouth

Yarmouth town is located on the North-West of the Isle of Wight and acts as one of the gateways to the Island with one of the main ferry services operating from its harbour.

The historic port town sits at the mouth of the River Yar and contains some of the oldest architecture on the Isle of Wight, including a 16th-century castle. The harbour at Yarmouth is always very busy with both ferries and smaller boats, and the town itself offers a good variety of things to do for visitors.

The history of the town is very evident as you walk around and a trip along the Grade 2 listed pier is highly recommended for views across The Solent and is also known locally for being a great spot for fishing.

Yarmouth Castle, which is tucked away to the side of the ferry dock, is also a great place for sea views and family picnics during the warmer months.

This course is designed for those looking to supercharge their existing boating skills.  The day will be split to concentrate on training room skills in the morning and on water skills in the afternoon. You have the choice of attending just the morning or afternoon or can book the whole day and do both sessions.   The sessions will cover many of the skills first learned on the Powerboat Level 2 training, tailored to areas that you would like to brush up on.

We will concentrate the sessions on what you need to focus and brush up on, but here’s an idea of what could be included in each skills session;

Morning session:

• Refresher on VHF – procedures for making emergency calls, how to carry out your own radio check, calling a marina – 1 hour
  
• Navigation equipment and general navigation – how to use a chart plotter for plotting a course, how to use a chart plotter for general use depth, speed, contour depths, ‘rules of the road’ – 1.5 hours
• Passage planning – Tides – 1.5 hours

Afternoon session:

• How to moor a boat, on water skills – 3 hours

17:45 – 18:00: Arrival and Setup

18:00 – 19:00: An hour with our head instructor, exploring the chosen destinations. Learn about potential risks, undiscovered spots, and key points of interest.

19:00 – 19:30: Enjoy some food and drinks on us with other members.

19:30 – 19:45: A Q&A session for any of your unanswered questions

19:45 – 21:00: Work alongside other members to create detailed passage plans.

Join us for a relaxed and informal evening at Trafalgar Wharf with our very knowledgeable professional angling champions, Will and Darren. They’ll talk about fishing in general and be on hand to give advice to help your fishing trips be more successful. Discussions will include:

• Fishing in general in the Solent
• Best places to fish
• Practical rigging session
• Will’s fishing knowledge – equipment, tackle, bait
• Q&A – all things fishing

Will is a 2022 Sea-Angling champion and has been angling for over 30 years with the last 8 years in a professional capacity. Fishing in Europe, Africa and the UK and being the team captain for the Suzuki Pro Fishing Team means he’s the perfect expert for fishing knowledge, tips and tricks. 

We’ll take care of the food whilst you take the opportunity to increase your knowledge for your next fishing trip, whilst being in good company.

You will head out with Will and his pro-angling buddy, Darren. Will is not only your skipper, but he’s also a 2022 Sea-Angling champion. Will has been angling for over 30 years with the last 8 years in a professional capacity. Fishing in Europe, Africa and the UK and being the team captain for the Suzuki Pro Fishing Team means he’s the perfect skipper for your fishing trip. He’ll be on-hand to show you the best and new ways to fish and help you make the most of your time on the water.

Fuel, bait and all the equipment needed for the day will be provided by us along with master tips and tuition from both Will and Darren. The cost for the day is £70 per person.

We plan to have a briefing outside the Café at 9.00am followed by a prompt departure at 9.30am. We’ll be bringing lines in at 3pm so would expect to be back at Trafalgar Wharf no later than 5pm. We will be out on the water for the whole day so be sure to bring a packed lunch, plenty of water and some warm clothing. Due to limited numbers, this fishing trip is for Boat Club members only.

While you are out on the water enjoying your boating, knowing how to use the VHF radio properly may one day save your life or others. This course is designed to teach you how to use all the functions on your VHF and when to use them. You will also be taught how to transmit messages to another ship or marinas, pan-pan or mayday.
