About Cowes / River Medina

Cowes, based centrally on the north coast of the Isle of Wight has so much to offer. Stroll through the vibrant town and enjoy independent shops and well-known boating clothing stores. Sit at a pavement café or have a restaurant lunch and people watch with a glass of something cold as the sun goes down over the Solent.

On route, we will be stopping at Osbourne Bay, a great anchorage all year round. In the summer months you may even be lucky enough to see the infamous ice cream boat!  Afterwards we will venture up the River Medina. The River Medina runs from Cowes and East Cowes, down into Newport – and is home to a number of yacht clubs, marinas and businesses.

The Medina Estuary is a great place for wildlife; its tidal waters, saltmarsh and mudflats are home to a wide range of plants and animals that are specially adapted to living in the challenging conditions. 

We will head as far as the well known Folly Inn before heading north back to Cowes Yacht Haven where we will stop for a bite to eat and a wonder around West Cowes.
